1.The aim and objective of Stony Redcaps is the practice and public performance of Garland and Isle of Man dances and the research and teaching of traditional dance.
2. An annual general meeting (AGM) will be held each year at which the annual accounts will be presented and the election of officers of the side will take place and any formal business of the side will be carried out.
3.Membership of the side is open to all subject to the approval and acceptance of the elected officers.
4.Members of the side will pay a subscription fee by standing order from a bank account on the 1st day of each month. The subscription payment will start following a three month trial. This amount will be reviewed each year at the AGM.
Members of the side will/would/should/give one month’s notice of a decision to leave the side. This maybe waived in exceptional circumstances. Failure to do so may cause us to withdraw from booked events and at very short notice and cause problems for event organisers.
5.Honorary membership will be awarded to our musicians who will have voting rights at any meeting but will not be expected to pay a subscription.
6.Health and Safety: the side are insured by membership to the Morris federation and also has public liability insurance. each member of the side has an obligation to take reasonable care of his or her own heath and for the safety of others who may be affected by his or her acts or omissions.
7.Officers of the side will be elected at the AGM and their duties are as follows:
Squire
(a) Senior officer of the side
(b) Responsibility for the sides when out at bookings and liaison/networking with other sides
(c) Responsible for pastoral care of members of the side
(d) Chair of the AGM
(e) Preparation of the squire’s report for the agm
(f) Will appoint a deputy as required
(g) Update contacts list
Bagman
(a) Responsible for the side’s finances
(b) Maintain the side’s accounts
(c) Preparation of the bagman’s report and statement of accounts for the AGM
(d) One of two signatories of the side’s chequebook
Bookings Secretary
Acceptance of bookings and the side’s programme
Foreman
(a) Responsibility for teaching the side’s dances
(b) Responsible for preparing the list of dances and who will be dancing them for each booking and then handing this information over to the squire in advance of the bookings.
(c) Responsible for the side’s overall training performance.
Press Officer
All from the side are responsible for advertising and publicity as needed.
Kit Officer
Responsible for the preparation, maintenance and storage of the side’s kit.
Also responsible for bringing the practice kit to practices.
Percussion instruments to be delegated when necessary
Also responsible for the first aid kit and its upkeep.
Keeper of the Scrapbook
(a) Recording the side’s activities
(b) Collecting photographs, press cuttings and memorabilia, DVD/CDs
(c) Safekeeping and display of scrapbooks.
(d) Facebook page
8.The side’s kit will consist of:
Cream dress
Red petticoat
White tights (in summer)
Brown tights (in winter)
Green shawls
Red leather character shoes
Brown, red and green ribbons on dress
Ankle bells (attached to red elastic) and shoe bells on shoe straps
OMR earrings
OMR badge on shawl
The kit shall remain the property of Stony Redcaps at all times. Upon leaving, members small return all kit to the side. Any adaptations to the kit based on need will be considered on a case by case basis by the existing members.
Kit will be worn at all times whilst in the public view unless otherwise directed by the squire. Kit will also be maintained and worn in a clean, neat and tidy condition at all times. No badge other than the official Redcap’s badge is to be worn on kit.
9. Practice will be held on a Monday evening commencing at 8.00pm and ending at 10pm in the Swinfen Harris hall, Stony Stratford. There will not be a practice on Bank Holidays.
If any member is unable to attend a practice, he/she should inform the foreman or the squire.
